There has always been a sect of the general population who are incredibly health conscious. They count calories, keep a balanced diet and know exactly what kind of food they are ingesting. Well now there is a new tech friendly cup that knows exactly what beverage you’re drinking. The device is called Vessyl, and its creators hope to revolutionize healthy drinking.
Made out of glass and a polymer coating, the smart cup identifies and measures what is poured inside of it, and tracks what you drink throughout the day. It connects via bluetooth and automatically sends the beverage’s information to its corresponding app on your smartphone. By the end of any given week users will then be able to see what they drank most frequently and how many calories and sugar they consumed in that time.
Forbes quoted Justin Lee, Vessyl’s creator, as saying, “There’s memory and algorithms built into the cup.” Therefore the cup doesn’t even need to be near your smart phone in order to collect and store information. Lee has claimed that the smart cup can store drinking data for three days at a time or even longer. In order to see your drinking habits though, the cup must be synched to its app. The cup does have a simple display on its exterior, which allows users to see how hydrated they are that day.
There has already been talk of third party collaboration, pending on the acceptance of the smart cup by the general public. Until this point there have been smart gadgets for monitoring activity, but many speculate that the data for what individuals ingest might turn out to be much more valuable.
From giant corporations using the device to gather market research or doctors using the smart cup to monitor their patience beverage intake, the uses for the device are seemingly endless. Forbes quoted Lee as saying, “We want to make our products as accessible as possible so that people can have those benefits.”
For now those interested in purchasing a cup, can preorder it now for $99. The price will rise to $199 after the cups released to the general market. Pre-orders, the company clarified, are not expected to ship until early 2015. So get order your’s now and discover just what you are drinking.
