Don’t sleep on Tesla
In an effort to encourage more people to buy a Tesla, Elon Musk plans to unveil thousands of new Superchargers this year.
Tesla entered 2018 with 1,124 Supercharger stations and 9,721 individual Superchargers, and it has already added 121 in the first four months of the year, which is a lightning-quick pace. But if that weren’t already impressive enough, Musk stated on Twitter this week that Tesla has “thousands of Supercharger locations going through permitting/construction.”
Musk could be exaggerating with this figure, but he’s usually a man of his word – and if he is telling the truth, this would mean that the number of Superchargers will more than double its current amount.
However, this could be a longer process than Musk anticipates. After the Supercharger is actually built, the remaining steps include: finding a location, receiving a city permit, installing it, and determining a contract with the utility company.
Further, investors aren’t jumping at this tweet just yet – after all, it is just an empty promise. But Musk claims that he will unveil a newly updated map of the Supercharger stations soon, which should appease investors and help Tesla’s shares bounce back a bit.
After its failures with the Model 3 – which you can read more about here – Tesla needs a victory, even if it’s a minor one like this. Musk always has cards on the table, and although the general public may not know what is in his hand, he rarely fails to impress.
