Britain’s Gambling Commission fined firms controlled by betting shop company William Hill 19.2 million pounds ($23.7 million) for failing to safeguard customers and for insufficient anti-money laundering measures.
The regulator contemplated terminating William Hill’s license due to problems at its three firms, controlled by online gaming and betting provider 888 (888. L).
Instead, the regulator gave William Hill the greatest UK gaming penalty.
“We identified major non-compliance concerns regarding safer gaming measures… and also anti-money laundering control deficiencies across the corporation,” Gambling Commission CEO Andrew Rhodes told BBC Radio.
The Commission claimed firms let customers deposit big amounts without checking.
In response, 888 stated the fines were due to pre-888 issues. Last year, it bought William Hill and affiliated enterprises.
