On Wednesday, the Republican-led U.S. House Judiciary Committee subpoenaed the FTC chair for Twitter privacy inquiry records.
The committee claimed Chairman Jim Jordan and others approached Chair Lina Khan about its Twitter examination after Elon Musk’s acquisition. But, according to the committee, Khan did not react to their demands for papers and information.
FTC comments were delayed.
A source told Reuters last year that the government has been questioning Twitter if it has the capabilities to comply with the privacy consent decree. One question was whether Twitter had the staffing to comply with a May 2022 deal with the U.S. regulator in which it committed to strengthen its privacy procedures and assign accountability on relevant roles. Twitter layoffs raised fears.
