A Canadian government source said Thursday that Canada and South Korea would start information security talks to strengthen intelligence-sharing and security.
The anonymous source stated that Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly would announce the concept in Seoul this week.
Intelligence-sharing, defense cooperation, and Canadian procurement bids are allowed under the proposed arrangement.
“This cooperation is all the more important given the current threats to global security and the rules-based international order,” the source said.
October saw Canada-Japan information-sharing. Tokyo awaits Joly after South Korea.
Canada established an Indo-Pacific policy in November, committing C$2.3 billion ($1.7 billion) for military and cyber security.
Ottawa sent a military plane to Japan earlier this month to support UN Security Council sanctions on North Korea.
