Prominent EU politicians reached an agreement on Thursday to amend draft rules to limit the use of generative AI like ChatGPT and to propose a ban on face monitoring, bringing the EU one step closer to establishing ground-breaking regulations for AI.

Two relevant committees in the European Parliament have reached an agreement; next month’s plenary vote will then determine whether the proposal moves on to final negotiations with EU member states and the European Commission.

Fears of job losses, misinformation, and copyright infringements have led to the EU executive proposing the AI Act two years ago to establish the standard for AI before China and the United States.
