Germany committed to continue supporting Kyiv with 2.7 billion euros ($3.0 billion) in military aid on Saturday.
A defense ministry said the package would comprise 30 Leopard 1 tanks, 15 Gepard anti-aircraft tanks, over 200 reconnaissance drones, and four Iris-T systems.
“We all want this dreadful and illegitimate war to stop quickly… This is unforeseeable. “Germany will help as long as it takes,” said Defence Minister Boris Pistorius.
“Thank you to our allies,” said Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, on Telegram.
Ukraine has requested long-range weapons, planes, and ammunition from its partners before a counter-offensive. Saturday’s German package contained 18 howitzers.
Germany first feared giving Ukraine heavy armaments to confront Russia’s invasion would worsen the war. Instead, Berlin committed to sending Leopard tanks and cooperating with allies to deliver additional in January.
