On Friday, Italy’s second-largest bank UniCredit (CRDI.MI), expanded its payments cooperation with Mastercard (MA.N).

UniCredit said the partnership spans 13 banks in 12 markets and 20 million cards, enabling payment innovation and improved digital experiences.

“This is the first time any large commercial bank has put in place a single-card multi-market strategy of this scale in Europe,” the Milan-based lender stated.

It provided little partnership specifics.

Mastercard CEO Michael Miebach called the Italian bank “an important partner for many years” in the same statement.
