On Tuesday, two officials previewed a 50 billion euro ($55 bln) EU aid plan for Ukraine.
After a review of the bloc’s 2021-27 budget, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will reveal the figure ahead of an international conference in London on Wednesday and Thursday to raise funds to rebuild Ukraine after Russia’s year-and-a-half war.
A senior EU official said the sum includes 33 billion euros in macro-financial support to refill Kyiv’s governmental coffers while it fights Russia. EU financing for Kyiv in 2023 is 18 billion.
A senior Ukrainian official said Kyiv was asking up to $40 billion for the first leg of a “Green Marshall Plan” to reconstruct its war-torn economy before the London negotiations.
The World Bank predicts Ukraine’s rehabilitation will cost over $400 billion, three times its GDP.
