Honda Motor’s recently announced that it will be collaborating with Waymo in an effort to utilize the companies self-driving car technology. The use of self-driving sensors and computing technology will give Honda an alternative approach the autonomous vehicle market.
The merger with the auto company could be where Alphabet has its sites sets on boosting the development of its autonomous cars. However, according to Computerworld, in recent months “Alphabet advanced into a separate business whose motto is to make it safe and easy for people and things to move around.”
While Fiat Chrysler has already revealed one hundred Pacifica minivans that utilize Waymo self-driving tech, Honda says it has hopes of its own version of an autonomous car to hit the road sometime in 2020. That is, if the deal with Waymo reaches finalization.
There’s also a possibility that Honda will give Waymo cars from the Alphabet unit that have already begun the modification process for self-driving. Engineers from Honda in California and Japan would join Waymo engineers in Novi, Michigan and Mountain View California.
