Delta Cancels Boeing Order

This week Delta Air Lines said they have reached an agreement with Boeing to retract the order of 18 of Boeing’s 787 Dreamliner crafts. These aircraft were ones that Delta had presumed was part of the merger with Northwest Airlines in 2008.

The merger with Northwest gained Delta $2.6 billion. However, the order that was recently canceled was estimated at $4 billion.

Delta’s fleet already has around 25 aircraft from Airbus and is still expecting to receive four of their A350s by 2018.

Although the order for the Dreamliner was canceled, Delta says they will continue to accept 120 of the new 737-900ER through to the year 2019. Delta vice president made a statement saying “This business decision is consistent with Delta’s fleet strategy to prudently address our widebody aircraft needs.”
