The 2025 Met Gala: A Celebration of Black Dandyism and Tailored Excellence

With the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the gala will honor the rich history of Black fashion, focusing on dandyism and menswear. This year’s co-chairs include a dynamic group of influencers and icons: rapper and fashion trailblazer A$AP Rocky, Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo, Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, and producer Pharrell Williams. Anna Wintour of Vogue will also co-chair, while NBA superstar LeBron James serves as the honorary chair, though his attendance depends on the Lakers’ playoff schedule.
The theme draws inspiration from Monica Miller’s book “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.” The accompanying exhibition will feature 12 sections, each highlighting a different aspect of Black dandyism, from “Freedom” to “Cool.” Artist Torkwase Dyson is designing the immersive experience, with creative input from Iké Udé.
As a major fundraiser for the Costume Institute, the Met Gala commands ticket prices of $75,000 per person, with tables priced at $350,000. High-profile sponsors like Tyler Perry’s Perry Foundation and George Lucas’s Hobson/Lucas Family Foundation ensure the event’s financial success.
The red carpet will undoubtedly be a highlight, with confirmed appearances from Zendaya, whose stylist Law Roach has already hinted at a show-stopping look. While Rihanna’s attendance remains uncertain, her partner A$AP Rocky’s involvement has fueled speculation.
