On Sunday, the chairs of state Democratic parties voiced their support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s new presidential contender, challenging the incumbent, Republican Donald Trump.
Following President Joe Biden’s announcement that he would be resigning as the party’s candidate, the chairs convened a conference call.
“Our members quickly rallied to support the candidate who has a history of successfully navigating challenging elections and who embodies the values held by the American people: reproductive freedom, climate protection, gun violence prevention, justice reform, and economic recovery,” stated Ken Martin, president of the Association of State Democratic Committees.
“That person is our sitting Vice President Kamala Harris.”
One source claimed there was “full support” for the vice president running for president, while Reuters had reported that the organization had endorsed her.
Some influential Democrats, such as former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, chose to remain silent, despite the rapid endorsement of Harris to challenge Trump for the Democratic presidential nomination in November.
