EV charging body says Tesla’s charger connector is unstandardized. On Monday, CharIN, the industry group promoting the Combined Charging System (CCS) standard to charge electric vehicles, said Tesla’s (TSLA.O) charging methodology is not standard and does not provide an open charging ecosystem.
In 2025, General Motors (GM.N) and Ford (F.N.) will adopt Tesla’s charging approach.
CharIN will organize a task committee to standardize NACS, Tesla’s proprietary.
Interested parties can contribute to normal development and undergo peer review in an open standardization process.
Blink Charging (BLNK.O), ChargePoint (CHPT.N), and Tritium (DCFC.O) will offer NACS connectors alongside CCS in their chargers.
Tesla’s NACS connector for rapid charging is smaller and lighter than a CCS charger, making it easier for drivers.
Tesla, Ford, and G.M. will help NACS dominate 60% of the U.S. E.V. market.
