On Tuesday, alphabet-owned Google (GOOGL.O) announced that it is laying off Waze employees as it combines the app’s advertising system with Google Ads technology.
We’ve started switching Waze’s advertising system to Google Ads to improve advertisers’ long-term experience. “We’ve reduced those roles focused on Waze Ads monetization,” Google, which bought Waze for $1.3 billion in 2013, stated.
In December, Google announced that it would integrate Waze and Google Maps teams to streamline procedures and add it to its Google Geo division, which includes Google Maps, Google Earth, and Street View.
Chris Phillips, Geo division head, emailed CNBC earlier to announce the news. Google will contact advertisers and partners on Wednesday.
