Israeli-Palestinian violence surges ahead of Netanyahu-Biden meeting. During a raid on Wednesday in the occupied West Bank, Israeli troops were claimed to have shot and killed a Palestinian teenager, aged 19, according to medical personnel and local people.
This came as violence increased during the first meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and United States Vice President Joe Biden.
Security in the West Bank, which includes areas where Palestinians seek statehood, has deteriorated as a result of several factors, including the emergence of Netanyahu’s hard-right administration, an entrenchment of Islamist terrorists, and a deadlock that has persisted for almost a decade in peacemaking efforts sponsored by the United States.
According to locals, the Palestinian man who was slain close to Jericho was shot. At the same time, troops faced off with stone-throwers, despite his family claiming he had not participated in the conflict. Since Tuesday, six Palestinians have been killed in clashes with Israeli forces. He was the sixth to die.
The army claimed that it assaulted to apprehend suspected militants. During the raid, the army shot at several Palestinians, tossing bombs and hitting one of them. There was no information regarding Israeli fatalities.
Since Netanyahu’s return to power in December of last year at the helm of a religious-nationalist coalition, his relationship with Vice President Joe Biden has been increasingly fraught. His intentions to restructure the court system and Jewish settlement in the West Bank are causing concern for Israel’s allies in the United States.
Netanyahu and Trump are scheduled to meet on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. They have not yet been invited to Biden’s White House.
During his remarks at the meeting on Tuesday, Vice President Biden advocated for continued efforts by the United States to normalize relations between Israel and the Arab countries that border it. In addition to this, Vice President Biden stated that the United States government “continues to work tirelessly to support a just and lasting peace between… the Israelis and Palestinians — two states for two people.”
