Leading the charge in this latest funding round is Bain Capital Ventures, joined by notable investors like Andreessen Horowitz and Abstract Ventures.
From Barcelona to Silicon Valley: The Founders’ Journey
Krea is the brainchild of Victor Perez and Diego Rodriguez, who first met as engineering students in Barcelona over a decade ago. Both shared a passion for blending creativity with technical expertise—Perez in music production and Rodriguez in art. Their academic journey introduced them to the emerging field of AI, sparking a lifelong fascination with its potential applications.
After completing their undergraduate studies, the duo pursued careers as AI researchers. Rodriguez eventually earned a fellowship from the king of Spain to attend Cornell University, with Perez following shortly after. However, Perez’s stay at Cornell was brief. Within a day of arriving, he pitched an early version of what would become Krea to Rodriguez. Convinced by the idea’s potential, both founders dropped out to focus on building their vision into reality.
Addressing the Designer’s Dilemma
The rapid proliferation of generative AI tools has created a fragmented landscape, leaving many designers struggling to keep pace. Unlike prompt engineers, designers are not inclined to dive into the technical intricacies of AI interrogation. Instead, they seek tools that align with their creative sensibilities and workflows.
This is where Krea steps in. By providing a unified interface that integrates multiple AI models, Krea eliminates the need for users to constantly monitor updates or compare model capabilities. As Aaref Hilaly, a partner at Bain Capital Ventures, explains, “Having a layer like Krea on top of all these models makes sense and provides value to creators.”

Krea’s platform is designed to enhance human creativity rather than replace it. Users begin by inputting an idea for an image, which the platform processes by selecting the most suitable AI models. This approach allows designers to focus on refining their concepts without getting bogged down by technical details. Additionally, Krea distinguishes itself through its editing capabilities, enabling users to interact with AI-generated content in intuitive ways, such as clicking, dragging, and modifying elements.
As Diego Rodriguez aptly puts it, “Why isn’t it possible to go on an [AI-generated] image and click and drag something in or take something out? That’s how a painter would work.” This philosophy ensures that the creator’s unique vision remains central to the process.

Currently, Krea supports still images and videos, but the roadmap includes expanding into audio and music generation. This broader scope reflects the founders’ belief that creativity spans multiple mediums. Furthermore, the recent funding will help Krea build enterprise-grade features, catering to larger teams and organizations beyond individual users.
