On Thursday, social media behemoth Meta Platforms (META.O) released a new feature called WhatsApp Channels, which the company claimed would turn the app into a “private broadcast messaging product.”

The first countries to get Channels access are Colombia and Singapore. Meta promised that it would make the service available to consumers in a wider variety of nations in the next months.

The business promised its customers they could keep up with news about their favorite bands, athletes, politicians, and other personalities.

The channel administrator’s profile photo and contact information would be hidden from viewers. In a similar vein, follower phone numbers will remain private.

The World Health Organization, FC Barcelona, and Manchester City will all be involved in the global rollout of the new function.
