Twitter Inc. CEO Elon Musk announced calls and encrypted messaging on Tuesday.

Musk announced “Twitter 2.0 The Everything App” last year, promising encrypted DMs, long-form tweets, and payments.

“Coming soon will be voice and video chat from your handle to anyone on this platform, so you can talk to people anywhere in the world without giving them your phone number,” Musk tweeted Tuesday.

Twitter’s call function will align with Facebook and Instagram, which offer comparable features.

Musk said Twitter would offer direct encrypted messaging starting Wednesday, but not calls.

Twitter will remove and archive dormant accounts this week.
