United States forward Trinity Rodman has become the world’s highest-paid female footballer after signing a new three-year contract with Washington Spirit, according to her agent.
The 23-year-old had been a free agent since her previous deal with the club expired at the end of December. Her new contract, reportedly worth about $2m (£1.5m) per year including bonuses, will keep her at the Spirit until 2028.
Rodman’s agent, Mike Senkowski, said the deal makes her the highest-paid women’s footballer globally.
“It feels amazing. I’m very happy. I’m very blessed,” Rodman said. “I think it’s a monumental and game-changing moment. I can’t even describe in words what it feels like.”
Before Rodman’s new agreement, Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati — winner of the Ballon d’Or in 2023, 2024 and 2025 — was widely reported to be the highest-earning female player.
In 2025, the National Women’s Soccer League salary cap stood at $3.5m (£2.6m) per team. However, a new ‘High Impact Player’ rule approved in December allows clubs to exceed the cap by up to $1m (£760,000) for players who meet specific criteria.
Washington Spirit owner Michele Kang praised Rodman’s importance to the club, saying she represented both its future and that of women’s football.
Rodman joined the Spirit after being drafted in 2021 and helped the team win the NWSL Championship in her debut season, earning Rookie of the Year honours. She has since established herself as a key figure for both club and country.
She has earned 47 caps for the United States, scoring 11 goals since making her international debut in 2022. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, she scored three goals as the USA went on to win gold.
Rodman is the daughter of former NBA star Dennis Rodman, who won five NBA championships with the Detroit Pistons and Chicago Bulls.
