Three US fighter jets have been shot down over Kuwait in what American officials are describing as an apparent case of friendly fire, amid ongoing US and Israeli military operations against Iran.
The aircraft involved were F-15 jets operating in support of the conflict when they were mistakenly targeted by Kuwaiti air defence systems, according to a statement released on Monday by US Central Command.
All six crew members on board the three jets were able to eject safely and have since been recovered. US officials confirmed that none of the personnel were killed in the incident. An investigation has been launched to determine how the misidentification occurred.
Video footage circulating online appears to show one of the jets crashing after being hit, though US authorities have not officially confirmed the authenticity of the clip.
Fighting Continues Across the Region
The incident comes as hostilities continued on Monday, with both Iran and US-aligned forces carrying out further strikes. Iranian officials also rejected claims by Donald Trump that Tehran was prepared to re-enter negotiations with Washington.
Meanwhile, Centcom confirmed the death of a fourth US service member, who had been injured during Iran’s initial retaliatory strikes earlier in the conflict. Officials said the individual later died from their wounds.
Three other American personnel were confirmed killed on Sunday in separate Iranian attacks. In addition, five US service members have been described as being seriously wounded. The identities of the dead and injured have not yet been made public.
Trump Warns of Further Casualties
Announcing the joint US–Israeli military operation against Iran on Saturday, Trump cautioned that American losses were likely. He said at the time that casualties were an unfortunate but common consequence of warfare.
“The lives of American heroes may be lost,” Trump said. “That often happens in war.”
In a series of interviews with journalists on Sunday, Trump suggested the US and Israeli strikes on Iran could continue for approximately four weeks. Speaking to the New York Times, he reiterated his belief that further American casualties were possible as the operation continues.
