YouTube is working for most people again after being down for a short time on Friday. Many users had trouble accessing the site, but things are returning to normal, according to Downdetector.com.
The outage began earlier today and was quickly noticed by users everywhere. Many reported being unable to watch videos or access their accounts. At its peak, nearly 10,800 people reported the problem to Downdetector. By 9 a.m. ET, reports had dropped to about 200, suggesting YouTube was being restored.
Other countries experienced similar issues. In the UK, reports dropped from over 3,000 to about 70. In Canada, users also regained access quickly, according to Downdetector.
YouTube has not explained the cause of the outage or how many people were affected. Downdetector notes its numbers are based on user reports, so the actual number could be higher.
Because YouTube was restored quickly, most users were not too concerned. People rely on YouTube for entertainment, news, learning, and work. By late morning, the service appeared to be running smoothly worldwide, which was welcome news for viewers and creators.
