ByteDance owns short-form video platform TikTok. It hosts 3–10-minute user-submitted videos.
In September 2016, Douyin was published in China as TikTok, an internationalized version.
After combining with Musical.ly on August 2, 2018, it became available worldwide. It released for iOS and Android in most areas outside mainland China in 2017.
TikTok and Douyin have similar interfaces but can’t share content.
Its servers are in each app’s market.

According to a Monday National Post article, Canada is banning the Chinese social media app TikTok from all government-issued smartphones starting Tuesday.
The article stated the move was made to protect government data after an internal study found that TikTok’s data harvesting tactics may leave users susceptible to cyber threats.
Days after the European Commission banned TikTok, the action highlights the rising opposition to the app amid worries about its ties to the Chinese government and control over user data worldwide.
Reuters requested a response from Canada’s privacy commissioner and TikTok.
