Google employees in Zurich, Switzerland, walked out on Wednesday after over 200 layoffs.
Alphabet (GOOGL.O), Google’s parent company, announced plans to cut 12,000 jobs—6% of its global workforce—in January.
Since January, corporate America has shed almost 290,000 IT positions, according to Layoffs. Com.
5,000 Google Zurich employees walked out last month to protest cuts.
Syndicom, an IT workers’ union, stated over 2,000 employees had offered to reduce their salaries and hours to prevent layoffs. Google declined.
“Syndicom members at Google Zurich and other strikers are showing solidarity with those laid off,” a spokesman said.
“They are outraged by the non-transparent layoffs and especially disgruntled that Google is eliminating personnel while making billions in profit.”
Google says it cut positions to meet its goals.
