Alphabet Inc. (GOOGL.O) A Google spokeswoman said Tuesday that the Play version of PDD Holdings Inc.’s (PDD.O) Pinduoduo app was suspended after malware was identified on the Chinese platform.
The spokesman added, “The off-play versions of the e-commerce app that have been determined to contain malware have been imposed on via Google Play Protect,” adding that the play version of the app has been suspended for security reasons.
Google Play Protect analyzes all Android applications to prevent malware installation.
This comes after the U.S. government tried to strengthen its cyber defenses in response to a rise in hacking and other digital crimes.
A new federal cybersecurity plan has designated China and Russia as the biggest cybersecurity dangers to the U.S. PDD declined to comment to reporters.
