Hungary’s foreign minister discussed gas, oil, and nuclear cooperation with Alexander Novak late Tuesday.

Szijjarto claimed Novak said Moscow might keep the Turkstream pipeline despite Western sanctions.

“Hungary’s gas supply will remain uninterrupted,” the statement said.

Hungary receives 4.5 billion cubic meters (bcm) of gas from Russia via Bulgaria and Serbia via the Turkstream pipeline.

Turkstream will be offline June 5–12 for maintenance, according to Bulgartransgaz’s website.

Szijjarto said Hungary will fight EU nuclear energy penalties.

Hungary intends to install two 1.2-gigawatt VVER reactors in its Paks nuclear power facility.

Szijjarto informed Novak that Hungary was trying to increase Framatome’s role in the Paks plant development since the German government was blocking control equipment for the new reactors.
