Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of leader Kim Jong Un, told official media KCNA on Saturday that a U.S.-South Korea security deal this week will aggravate the situation.

Kim said North Korea must improve its “nuclear war deterrent.” Statements were brief.

Kim’s initial statement on the summit signals North Korea would continue its military demonstrations of force and weapons development.

In light of Pyongyang’s increasing missile and bomb arsenal, U.S. President Joe Biden and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol met this week.

To show Washington’s commitment to protecting South Korea from North Korea, a nuclear-armed ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) will visit for the first time since the 1980s.
