Councillors are set to decide on plans by fashion designer Stella McCartney and her husband Alasdhair Willis to build a clifftop home in Lochaber.
The proposed property would be located at Loch Ailort, a scenic sea loch west of Fort William. The plans have attracted dozens of objections, with critics raising concerns about the size and design of the house, as well as its potential impact on the surrounding landscape and wildlife.
Despite this, planning officers have recommended approval after the couple submitted revised designs, with final approval now resting with Highland councillors.
The site, known as Commando Rock in Roshven, has historical significance, having once been used for military training.
A spokesperson for the couple said the home has been carefully designed to be environmentally sensitive, using natural Scottish stone and a turf roof to help it blend into the landscape. They added that the building would be largely hidden by the natural shape of the land and less visible than previous approved plans for the site.
The couple also stressed that the property is intended to be a permanent family residence rather than a holiday home, describing it as their “forever home.”
A decision will be made when the council’s planning committee meets to review the proposal.
