At least 10 people have been killed in Israeli air strikes and clashes in central Gaza, according to local sources, as tensions continue despite an existing ceasefire.
The violence occurred near the Maghazi refugee camp, where fighters from Hamas reportedly clashed with an Israel-backed Palestinian militia. Witnesses said the militia had set up a checkpoint before coming under attack, triggering fighting on the ground.
Israeli drones were then said to have intervened, carrying out strikes targeting Hamas personnel in multiple locations. Bodies from the incident were taken to al-Aqsa Hospital, where officials confirmed at least 10 deaths and dozens of injuries, some critical.
There was no immediate response from Israel or Hamas, and it remains unclear how many casualties resulted from the air strikes versus the clashes.
The incident underscores the fragility of the ceasefire agreed nearly six months ago. Since then, hundreds of Palestinians have reportedly been killed in Israeli strikes, while Israeli forces have also suffered casualties in ongoing attacks.
Efforts to move forward with a broader peace plan backed by Donald Trump remain stalled, with disarmament of Hamas a key sticking point. Hamas has rejected calls to lay down arms before Israel meets earlier commitments, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has insisted the group will ultimately be disarmed.
The latest violence adds to fears that the conflict could escalate further, as negotiations remain deadlocked and regional tensions continue to rise.
