The man accused in the long-running Gilgo Beach serial killings case is expected to make a major alegal shift, with reports that he will plead guilty to another murder.

Rex Heuermann, a New York architect arrested in 2023, is already charged with the murders of seven women. He is now expected to admit guilt in the death of Karen Vergata, whose remains were first discovered in 1996 but only identified in 2023.

The case has haunted investigators for years. It began in 2010 when human remains were discovered along Gilgo Beach on Long Island. Over time, authorities linked multiple victims—many believed to be sex workers—whose deaths date back as far as 1993.

Heuermann had previously pleaded not guilty to all charges. However, according to a lawyer representing some victims’ families, he is now expected to change his plea to guilty not only in Vergata’s case but potentially across the other murders as well.

Prosecutors say they uncovered disturbing evidence during the investigation, including a document believed to be used for planning the killings. It reportedly listed concerns like avoiding DNA evidence and included references to methods and lessons drawn from past crimes. Authorities also seized hundreds of electronic devices and a large cache of weapons from his home.

If confirmed, a guilty plea would mark a major turning point in one of the most notorious serial killing cases in recent US history—potentially bringing some closure to families after decades of uncertainty.
