Let me admit I have a passion for the field of education. I know it sounds funny, but institutions were the coolest place I could enjoy all my life. My professional diversity journey began when I was employed as a summer campus ambassador. I also secured other roles like a resident assistant, lifeguard, instructor, and educator. Through all these, I started learning different ways to deal with people.
I have stayed at San Diego State University for almost five years. There is nothing I regret about working with students. Sometimes society will look down upon you when you get a job at school. All they think about is being a teacher. My role is not properly recognized.
There was a time I visited Africa, specifically Lamu Island in Kenya. A spiritual man told me that “the tide comes, and the tide goes out.” I am still trying to figure out the meaning of this advice. For sure, he was right, and every day cannot be good. But, if you sit down and think deeply, you can come up with the best ways to address your people. But, on the other hand, if you try to swim against the current, it will be hard.
My joy comes when I see students whom I have mentored graduate. I am always hopeful that they will positively impact society and expand diversity. I help most of them overcome obstacles that could block their dreams. Whenever someone becomes successful and gives me a call, that’s my favorite place.
For sure, inclusion and diversity do not change. I will still walk with my tools when I am off from work. I feel like society needs me more. Diversity is a position and a lifestyle, and I work 24/7.
I cannot say exactly where I came from. But I have grown up here in America. My parents, Rosetta and Ricardo, have never explained the best way to answer the origin question. I know that I am partly British, Irish, and Congolese. I believe that is a piece of full information, and it doesn’t help me too much.

Assume the office is on fire. The only thing I can secure is the sisal tapestry I bought in Mexico. The caballero jaguar is woven created by the residents of Southern Mexico. Some of the community members said it was rescued from a burning truck. When I look at it, I can draw a picture of how a second chance can change someone’s life. In my heart, there is room for a second chance.
Just like my lifestyle, my music taste is diversified. I will listen to artists like Jill Scott, Coltrane, Miles Davis, and Philly Soul when I wake up. This is a kind of jazz music to refresh my mind. During road trips, the rhythm changes. I listen to Nameless, Femi Kutu, Wahu, Celia Cruz, etc.
My favorite player(GOAT) is Pele. He came up with inevitable skills. He is the founder of our modern football.
To a younger Aaron Bruce, follow your passion, and life will be good. Keep away from negative talks.
