Apple has made it its mission to become the biggest and baddest electronics company out there. From phones, to computers, to their media streaming device, Apple is the dominant force in the industry. And now the tech giant is announcing plans that they want to become a part of your home as well. According to a Financial Times report, the company is planning to launch a new software platform that allows your iPhone or iPad to control the system in your house. This includes but is not limited to lights, security systems, cooling and heating, as well as any other appliance you can think of.
Apple is expected to announce the system formally at the World Wide Developers Conference on June 2. The FT further reported that Apple’s next generation Apple TV will be the hub used to connect smart appliances. The report stated “Apple has been talking to a select group of other device makers whose smart home products will be certified to work with its forthcoming new system and then be sold in its retail stores.”
It is exciting and scary at the same time. The idea that one day very soon that the control of our houses will be at our fingertips is very cool. If you happen to be upstairs and forget to turn off the light? No worries you can do that from your phone. Same goes if you forget to run the dishwasher. The scary part is if you can do this from your phone, how easy is it for someone else to do the same? Hacking is not a new concept, and we just worry that someone could use this technology against you. None the less we’re very excited for the unveiling of the new software.
