There is much anticipation for the new additions to the Star Wars episodes, and though Star Wars: Episode VII has still yet to be released and will not be until the end of the year, casting for Episode VIII is already a go.
The Hollywood Reporter sources have revealed that Benicio Del Toro was offered to play a villain in Star Wars: Episode VIII. It is still not yet finalized though as deals might be in the making to get Del Toro on board.
Many believe Del Toro is the perfect fit for the Star Wars family as he is known for his ‘dark and edgy indie’ works. He is also no stranger to the Disney empire, playing the Collector in Guardians of the Galaxy, which is also from Marvel Studios, a sister company of Lucasfilm.
Del Toro’s most recent movie is the Denis Villeneuve directed film Sicario, a movie about the drug trade between the US and Mexico.
It is finalized that Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and John Boyega will be returning for the second Lucasfilm/Disney movie. Even some Star Wars veterans, like Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, will be returning.
Cross your fingers that Del Toro decides to accept his offer. It might even be the best career choice, with the big name and perfect placement as the villain, for the actor.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens will premiere on December 18, 2015. Episode VIII is projected to release on May 26, 2017.
Rian Johnson is the director for both the Star Wars films.
