Cathay Pacific (0293. HK) flight CX880 aborted takeoff early Saturday at Hong Kong’s international airport owing to a technical fault, injuring 11 persons.
Hong Kong-Los Angeles flight had 17 crew and 293 passengers. It was “an aborted takeoff following standard procedures after the crew detected a technical issue.”
Cathay said the injuries occurred when passengers used five-door escape slides to evacuate the aircraft at the gate.
“Nine of the eleven passengers who received treatment at hospitals have been discharged,” it said. “Our colleagues will support the two hospitalized passengers and their families.”
Cathay apologized to customers.
Police told national broadcaster RTHK that a plane tire overheated and broke.
