China and Russia conducted a sixth joint aviation patrol over the Sea of Japan and the East China Sea on Tuesday, coinciding with an escalation in US and allied military activities in the Asia-Pacific.

China’s defense ministry said Tuesday that the patrol is part of the two forces’ annual cooperation plan.

After Chinese H-6K bombers, Russian TU-95 bombers, and SU-35 fighter jets crossed South Korea’s Air Defence Identification Zone (KADIZ) in November’s last combined aerial patrol with Russia, South Korea scrambled fighter jets.
