Security breaches are always cause for worry, and Ebay is reporting that users login credentials have recently been compromised. They explained that while the hackers had hacked into encrypted files containing login information, no credit card numbers were stolen, nor were there any unauthorized transactions processed. Nonetheless, Ebay is urging its users to change their information immediately. The attack took place sometime between late February and March, and hackers were able to access personal information such as physical addresses and dates of birth.

Ebay stated that credit card numbers are stored in a separate part of their website and that the hackers never breached that section. They unfortunately have no leads as to who is responsible for the attack and in a Q&A Ebay representation said they “will not speculate” as to who it might be. That being said, Ebay warned that if users used their Ebay password for other sites than those passwords need to be changed as well. Thankfully it seems no one has lost money and no one’s credit has been affected. With Target’s security fiasco still fresh in everybody’s mind, there’s strong reasoning to still be on high alert.
