The four-day convention in Milwaukee comes to a close as the former US president accepts the Republican candidacy in a lengthy speech.
At the Republican National Convention, six days after he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt, former US President Donald Trump accepted the party’s nomination for president.
He then proceeded to deliver the longest acceptance speech in modern times, lasting over 90 minutes.
Instead of bringing people together, Trump’s speech descended into old grudges as he condemned illegal immigration, political “witch-hunts,” and election fraud.
Regardless, there was a lot of pomp and circumstance surrounding Trump’s inauguration. Republicans gathered around him, applauding him both on and offstage, for the address, which was the last event of the party convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
That outpouring of support for Trump stood in sharp contrast to President Joe Biden’s political woes; following his dismal performance in the debate last month, Biden is receiving increasing pressure from his fellow Democrats to withdraw from the race.
However, Trump was the talk of the town in Milwaukee that evening. Names of Biden were hardly brought up.
Five major points were made during the last night of the Republican National Convention.
