According to Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will meet with global semiconductor firm executives to strengthen multilateral collaboration on Thursday.
“The resilience of the semiconductor supply chain cannot be achieved by a single country, and it is extremely important to work together with like-minded countries and regions,” Matsuno said at a routine news conference on Wednesday.
The meeting would take place as the US pushes partners to work together to fight China’s electronics and sophisticated technology.
According to two people organizing the meeting, Kishida will meet with executives from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSMC) (2330. TW) and six other chip makers to demand aggressive investment in Japan and deeper cooperation with Japanese businesses.
The people claimed Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930. KS), Intel Corp (INTC.O), Micron Technology Inc (MU.O), Applied Materials Inc (AMAT.O), IBM (IBM.N), and IMEC executives would also participate.
