Scania and Northvolt introduced a truck-lifetime electric battery on Tuesday.

Swedish companies said the lithium-ion battery under test could power vehicles for 1.5 million kilometers (930,000 miles), Scania’s anticipated lifespan.

“The future of heavy transport is electric, and to enable the shift and continue delivering on our brand promise towards customers to be premium, Scania needs top-performing battery cells for our electric trucks,” said Scania CEO Christian Levin.

The businesses claimed that the battery cells made in the Northvolt Ett gigafactory in northern Sweden have an estimated carbon footprint of one-third of a relevant industry reference at full serial manufacturing.
