Bassirou Diomaye Faye will officially assume the presidency of Senegal on Tuesday, April 2, following his victory in Senegal’s presidential election held on March 24. The swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Abdou Diouf International Conference Centre (CICAD) in Diamniadio, located about 30 km from Dakar. The event, scheduled to begin at 11 AM (UTC), will be attended by foreign heads of state and governments.

During the ceremony, the Constitutional Council will oversee the proclamation of the election results, and Faye will take the oath of office prescribed by Article 37 of the Constitution. This oath obligates him to faithfully execute the duties of the president, uphold the Constitution and laws, defend Senegal’s territorial integrity and independence, and work toward African unity.

Following the swearing-in, Faye will be awarded the Grand-Croix de l’Ordre national du Lion and the Collier du Grand-Maître de l’Ordre national du Lion. Subsequently, he will proceed to the presidency in Dakar.

Dignitaries expected to attend the ceremony include President Adama Barrow of The Gambia, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria and ECOWAS chairman, President Umaro Sissoko Emballo of Guinea-Bissau, AU Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, and Mali’s Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop.

Faye’s presidency marks Senegal’s fourth democratic transfer of power since gaining independence over six decades ago. In his first speech as president-elect, Faye reiterated his commitment to fighting corruption, reforming the economy, and governing with humility and transparency.
