Japan is one of those countries that have genuinely had a regretful history with nuclear disasters. However, somehow the country has always been able to bounce back and recover from the aftermath of these disasters.
One such recent event is the disaster of the Fukushima Daiichi that took place in the year 2011. After the disaster took place, the country shut down several nuclear plants due to inadequate safety protocols. Also, the forty-three nuclear power plants that Japan had have been shut down since 2013.
Since the earthquake and tsunami had struck the Fukushima Daiichi plant in 2011, only five plants have passed the safety protocols that should suffice the plants in the future.
Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is all for clean energy and wants the reactors back and functioning. It is estimated that by the year 2030, about 22% of the nation’s energy will be from clean sources.
The restart has got critical reviews, especially from protesters who held signs with words like, “Stop the restarts!” and “Don’t say it’s safe when you can’t take responsibility.”
However, the Prime Minister claimed that the new safety standards are the highest in the world. Hopefully, the country will not have to face another major nuclear disaster and is able to enjoy clean energy that keeps the planet happy.
