On Friday, a source told the Wall Street Journal that Rivian Automotive Inc. (RIVN.O) is moving elements of its manufacturing engineering team to Illinois to speed up production.

According to the WSJ, the restructure will require manufacturing engineering employees to move to central Illinois or Irvine, California.

“In terms of ramping production, it’s useful to have the manufacturing and engineering teams closer to our facilities in Normal as well as our headquarters in Irvine,” a Rivian representative told Reuters, declining to clarify if teams were moving.

Rivian, which builds R1T electric pickup trucks and R1S SUVs in Normal, Illinois, predicted 2023 output below analysts’ projections in February due to supply chain issues.

Last year, the electric-vehicle producer nearly missed its 25,000-unit manufacturing goal.

Investors worry about EV demand as interest rates climb and recession fears deepen.
