On Wednesday, the U.N. Yemen mediator encouraged the warring parties to “seize the opportunity” to take major measures toward peace, saying a Saudi-Iranian rapprochement has reinvigorated impetus to end the conflict.

“We are presently witnessing fresh regional diplomatic momentum, as well as a step shift in the breadth and complexity of the conversations,” U.N. Yemen special envoy Hans Grundberg told the Security Council.

“The parties must exploit this regional and international momentum to take bold moves toward a more peaceful future.”
