The United States says it has made meaningful progress in recent talks with Ukraine on shaping a long-term plan to end the war with Russia. Officials described the discussions as productive, noting that both countries are getting closer to agreeing on what a future settlement and security structure could look like.
The talks took place in Washington and were part of ongoing negotiations aimed at establishing a roadmap for Ukraine’s stability once the fighting ends. US officials said the conversations touched on several key areas, including military support, defence commitments, and reforms that would help Ukraine strengthen its institutions.
One major focus was the development of security guarantees that would give Ukraine long-term protection against future aggression. The US stressed that Ukraine needs to be able to defend itself independently, even as Western allies continue providing assistance. Ukrainian representatives, meanwhile, emphasized the urgent need for continued military and financial aid to sustain their defences during the war.
Officials also discussed how Ukraine could deepen its ties with Western countries and eventually integrate more closely with Euro-Atlantic institutions. Both sides described the meeting as a constructive step forward, though they acknowledged that complex issues still need to be resolved.
The US said the talks will continue, but the latest round marks notable progress toward coordinating a broader plan that could shape Ukraine’s future beyond the conflict.
