Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called the International Criminal Court’s arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin historic and criticized Putin for deporting thousands of Ukrainian children.

“This is a historic decision which will lead to historic responsibility,” he added in his nightly video message. He said that “state wickedness which originates directly with the top official of this state” was behind the expulsion of “much more” than 16,000 children.

Without the leader’s approval of the terrorist state, he said, “It would not have been feasible to carry out such a heinous operation.”
