Walmart Publicly Apologizes After Tracy Morgan’s Tragedy

Walmart apologized after its truck driver Kevin Roper hit Tracy Morgan’s limousine from behind, killing comedian James McNair and seriously injuring Morgan and three others. Roper plead not guilty, but police say Roper hadn’t slept for over 24 hours when he sent his semi-trailer sailing into Morgan’s vehicle.

The six-car accident is causing uproar among the public, and Walmart is in the direct aim of fire. According to Bloomberg, Bill Simon, president and CEO of Walmart, responded to the calamity saying, “This is a tragedy and we are profoundly sorry that one of our trucks was involved. We are working quickly to understand what happened and are cooperating fully with law enforcement to aid their investigation.”

Following the release of Morgan’s initial injuries, which were extensive, Morgan’s fiancé asked the fans to stop conjecturing about his current state, according to her publicist Lewis Kay. Kay also expressed how the family and friends need time to cope and deal with the recovery process at hand. Walmart seemed to respect this request stating in a press release, “Safety is our absolute highest priority, but that is no comfort whatsoever to the family and friends who are suffering today. We offer them our deepest condolences. We can’t change what happened, but we will do what’s right for the family of the victim and the survivors in the days and weeks ahead.”

Roper was charged with one account of death by an automobile and four accounts of assault. He was released with a $50,000 bond, and Walmart has yet to comment further on the incidence.
