On Monday, World Bank President David Malpass called Russia’s imprisonment of Wall Street Journal writer Evan Gershkovich a “brazen act” that undermines press freedom and journalist safety.

On Friday, local news outlets reported that Russian Federal Security Service agents accused Wall Street Journal writer Gershkovich of espionage.

The FSB apprehended Gershkovich in Yekaterinburg on March 30 for allegedly stealing military-industrial complex state secrets.
