Josep Borrell, the EU’s top diplomat, said on Monday that despite the recent evacuation of diplomatic staff and other EU residents from Sudan, the EU would continue to seek a political solution.

A political settlement must be pursued. Before meeting with EU foreign ministers, Borrell remarked, “Sudan imploding would send shockwaves throughout Africa.”

Borrell stated that the EU’s Sudan ambassador was still there.

Captains leave last. “He is in Sudan but no longer in Khartoum,” Borrell said.
