The Canadian chip startup secured fresh funding led by Trace Capital as competition intensifies to develop more efficient processors for artificial intelligence workloads.
Artificial intelligence chipmaker Tenstorrent Inc. has raised $1.5 billion in a new funding round, lifting its valuation to $6.2 billion as investors continue backing alternatives to established AI hardware providers.
The Series E financing was led by Trace Capital, a firm launched this year by Quiet Capital co-founder Ben Mahdavi, alongside Innovation X, Tenstorrent said in a statement. The announcement confirmed an earlier report by Bloomberg News.
Tenstorrent develops processors designed to run certain artificial intelligence workloads more efficiently. Its technology positions the company within a competitive market where chipmakers are seeking to challenge established suppliers by offering alternatives tailored to the growing computational demands of AI systems.
The latest fundraising also follows takeover interest in Tenstorrent earlier this year, highlighting the attention the startup has attracted as demand for AI computing technology expands.
The $6.2 billion valuation represents a significant milestone for the company as it seeks to strengthen its position in the AI semiconductor industry. The new capital could support its efforts to develop its technology and compete in a market increasingly shaped by demand for more efficient computing infrastructure.
Tenstorrent’s funding round underscores continued investor interest in AI hardware companies, even as the industry faces questions about the long-term costs of building and operating the infrastructure required to power advanced AI applications.
