On Monday, the Chinese foreign ministry said it had protested U.S. sanctions on Chinese enterprises and individuals for alleged fentanyl trade.

“China, in the spirit of humanitarianism, has been trying to help the U.S. as best it can,” spokesperson Wang Wenbin told a regular news briefing.

Wang said repeated U.S. sanctions “seriously undermine” drug control cooperation.

On Friday, Washington sanctioned two Chinese organizations and four Chinese nationals for supplying precursor chemicals to Mexican drug traffickers to make illicit fentanyl for the U.S.
